Brian Who?
You may know him as a previous member of the Making the Band group Day 26, but who is Brian Angel as an individual? I’ve had the privilege to get to know Brian over some time, and I’ve enjoyed his music as a solo artist. To me, he is a really sweet and down to earth guy. He also is still making great music, and I wanted to share how brilliant he is. Read the interview and leave a comment below!
Stella: Thank you for taking the time to chat with me today. I find joy in promoting amazing people, and you were one of the first people who came to my mind. So let’s get to it! Who is Brian Angel?
Brian: Brian is a country Nigerian originally from Houston, TX. I’m simple. It doesn’t take a lot to make me happy. I’m non-confrontational, although people like to bring me drama *laughs* I’m just an easy-going guy. I like to be happy and make people happy.
Stella: When did you realize that you wanted to pursue a music career?
Brian: I’ve always made music and have been in groups, but I think my senior year of high school I figured it out. I was so into football, and I just knew I was going to grow and be this 6’3” guy, and I didn’t grow at all! *laughs* I was getting scouted by different colleges, but the height didn’t come in. So I thought to myself, “music it is!”
Stella: You have a very beautiful voice. To this day, I still remember how my friends and I would crowd around the TV and watch Making the Band. That was our show, okay! *laughs*
Brian: Thank you, thank you!
Stella: Yeah, you had a strong voice in the group. To me, the Day 26 sound is R&B and pop. Now that you are a solo artist, what would you say your sound is?
Brian: I like to call it Raw & B, not R&B. I was thankful to be a part of Day 26, and the music that we had was amazing. Now, I’m saying things that Day 26 wouldn’t have said, but these are things that I wanted to say. We didn’t get an opportunity to say it because we were the “good guys”. You know? So, I’m making music that everyone can relate to.
Stella: That’s awesome. I’m glad that you’re able to be your true self and express how you feel through music. Who are your favorite music artists?
Brian: You know what’s crazy? I’m stuck in the 90s. Jodeci is the “be all” for me. Jodeci was the greatest group ever, in my opinion. I also listen to Dave Hollister. I listen to a lot of Tank. Tank actually wrote something for the project that I’m working on now.
Stella: Awww, that’s sweet!
Brian: That’s my big brother. I’ve been working with him since I was 14. Yeah, so Tank, Jodeci, and Dave Hollister…people like that who really embody the real meaning of R&B.
Stella: Looks like you got some new music for us, right?
Brian: Yeah, I dropped a new single on Tuesday, April 21st. Which is titled Here I am. I’m still trying to figure out a date for the new project. That’s titled I am Brian Angel. The last project that I released in November was called Brian Who? It’s crazy how I came up with that name *laughs* The group was on tour last year, and I wasn’t with them. The fans would ask, “where is Brian?” and the band would say, “Brian, who?” So I came up with the title Brian Who. My new EP will be released June-ish. It’s titled I am Brian Angel. I got a lot of dope features! I got Houston’s legend Lil Flip.
Stella: Ooooooooo! My friend and I were asking about him the other day. Crazy!
Brian: Yeah, that’s my guy! I also have KenTheMan; she is super hot here in Houston. I also got an artist called Dottie Blanco that I’m working with. She is on the project as well. I actually finished with this project, and I am working on a 3rd project which is called Forever Brian Angel. I got a lot of big names on that one as well.
Stella: I love how the titles of your albums flow. You said BrianWho, I am Brian, and Forever Brian. That’s nice!
Brian: Yeah, yeah, yeah! *Laughs* It all gotta coordinate!
Stella: My last question is, where do you see yourself in 5 years? I know that maybe a cliché question, but I had to ask. What do you want to achieve?
Brian: I want to see my record company up and running and bless artists with the opportunity that I was blessed with. You know? That is something that I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve always been a giver, and a person who wants to see people’s dreams come true. So basically, someone who wants to see people’s dream come true.
Stella: That’s great. Awww, this was fun! I appreciate you chatting with me.
Brian: I appreciate you reaching out, and I’m thankful for the opportunity. God bless you and your family.
Stella: Same to you, sugar!
Great interview! I feel as though I got to know Brian as “Brian” and not just the artist. I’ll definitely be checking out his EP when it drops this summer!
